Ready to Learn Initiative
The Ready to Learn Initiative (RTL) supports the development of innovative educational television and digital media targeted to preschool and early elementary school children and their families. Michele created digital illustrations to support various RTL publications.
Somali Children’s Books
Education Development Center, with funding from USAID, developed a series of four children’s books to retell Somali folktales transmitted orally from grandparents and parents to their grandchildren and children. Often teaching lessons, books were developed for early learners and illustrations were created by Michele in chalk pastel.
Somali Reader Series
This series of five adventure books was developed for older children in Somalia. Funded by USAID and coordinated by Education Development Center, the stories inside are often derived from well-known Somali tales. In many cases, the characters take on animal forms and represent people with unacceptable behavior. Michele developed the design and illustrations which are done in watercolor.
